Aardvark
I have to use an action *and* discard this creature to get my Potions lesson
back? No thanks! We'll have to evaluate the worth of this based on the merits
of its other abilities, since that particular one is rarely (if ever) going
to be played. Looking further, it has an attack of 2 and a health of 1, with
a cost of 4 lessons. Black Bat and Boa Constrictor are both strictly superior,
although this might fit in alongside of them in a very fast and lightweight
creature deck. However, it was meant to be played in a Sprout deck, where
it's health gets increased up to 3, with the aid of the Professor. That's
very economical, and you incur an added bonus if you also get into play a
Dragon Dung Compost. As with the other cards reviewed earlier this week,
the playability value of this plant goes way up in a narrow deck type.
Crusader
This is an okay card, a 2/1 creature with the effect to discard it and get
a CoMC lesson from your discard pile. But, it uses an action, so it's not
good. Black Bat has the same stats and CoMC level, so it's better because
it gets the 2 damage to start off with.
Enraged
Better than Boa Constrictor but it really isn’t big enough to be played
much and Cunning Fox is just way better. This guy’s ability is pretty
pointless because you when you lay a creature he is there for the damage that
he can deal not to waste an action you could use to draw instead.
Fishbob
If you don't care about creature health and your deck is running potions you
might want this card. I don't see why you'd sacrifice this card for a lesson
but I suppose some people might. Two damage for four lessons isn't bad but
I reccomend going with Boa and Black Bat. That is, of course, unless you
have Sprout. If you do, 3 health still isn't that great. I wouldn't use this
card if you have room for Black Bats.
Profpoke
An instant CoMC replacement. It's ability costs as much as if you had played
the lesson from your hand, which could be helpful if you don't really have
any CoMC lessons in your hand. And when you do use it, if you have the original
Hermione in play, you can get back two lessons from your discard instead
of one, sorta like with the Remembrall. But while you let it sit in play,
it's an average damage dealer, and since it's a plant (which is likely used
in a plant deck), it would get a boost from Sprout and helps with other Plant
based effects too.
